Ranking on the first page of Google is just one critical step toward increasing your website traffic- which then you need to convert into an audience, leads and finally, sales.
1, 2, and 3 are where the magic happens for organic rankings capturing about 70% to 80% of clicks of average traffic percentages presented by Google results and other search engines.
The latest findings from online ad network Chitika confirm it is anything but lonely at the top. According to the study, the top listing in Google's organic search results receives 33 percent of the traffic for a searched term, compared to 18 percent for the second position, and the traffic only decreases from there, as you can see in the chart below:

A correlated study by the Chitika team from 2010 presented similar results, and Chitika suggests the results corroborate the importance of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for online businesses.
